Launched in 2012 on the belief that cooking should be relaxing and exciting—not intimidating or stressful—Gourmand Cooking School has quickly expanded from a few classes to more than 30. Here you’ll find fun instruction for every palate and skill level in a low-key, interactive environment. Hell’s Kitchen this is not! On the contrary, it’s a delightful setting for date night, girls’ night out, celebrations, or just an escape from the norm.
Founder, owner, and head instructor Chef Jason believes passionately in the bonding power of food. No matter where in the world we live, food is a common thread. And while eating is a necessity, it’s also one of life’s great pleasures. Preparing it is part of the joy.
Every night, he shares this enthusiasm with his students, showing them that—with a little knowledge, a few kitchen “secrets,” and some practical tips—they can master just about any dish or preparation style. Chef doesn’t preach—he guides students through the process while they work alongside him, actively creating their masterpieces. Then everyone dives in to enjoy their meals (and they get to take home the leftovers). Sessions average eight people, so there’s plenty of personalized attention.
With nearly 20 years’ experience in the kitchen, Chef has done it all—playing a variety of roles, from teenage dishwasher to supermarket butcher. He regularly pursues continuing-education courses at the Restaurant School of Philadelphia and is continually brainstorming new classes for Gourmand. He also offers consulting and employee-training services to restaurants, provides team-building seminars to corporations, and serves as personal chef in individuals’ homes.
